Aftercare:
As far as Tattoo Aftercare is concerned, every different
artist has a different approach. The best advice that
I can give it is that if you have a process that works
for you, use it.
Personally I suggest the following:
Keep Bandage on for at least three to four hours after
getting tattooed.
Remove and wash with warm water and a mild soap.
Do not rebandage - air helps heal your skin.
Apply a moisturizing cream without a petroleum base
2/3 times daily. Just use enough to rub in.
You can wash daily - make sure your tattoo is completely
dry before applying cream.
Try to keep your tattoo as dry as possible while washing
and pat it dry as opposed to rubbing it dry.
DO NOT do following:
Do not soak your tattoo - it softens the scab and lets
it root deeper in the skin. (slower to heal)
Do not suntan - new tattoos burn easily as they are
new skin. Keep those babies covered.
Do not listen to "dumb ass know it all" friends,
ask a professional if you have any questions or concerns.
Do not pick at your tattoo during the healing process.
What to expect after your tattoo:
The
tattoo can be sore or stiff for a couple of days afterwards
depending on both placement and size. Within three to
seven days after the tattoo scabs will start to lift
and peel away from the skin itself. Do not pick at the
scab; you can end up pulling off some of the premature
scabs and permanently damage your tattoo. Just let them
fall off on their own.
After
all the scabs have fallen off the tattoo will appear
to be very shiny; this is referred to as the "milk
scab." It is the last stage of haling and usually
is marked by a severe case of the itches. This phase
typically lasts about a week or so and eventually just
fades away.
Tattoo Maintenance:
The Sun is no friend of Tattoos. If you intend to spend
a lot of time in the sun, protect that puppy. The higher
the SPF, the better off your tattoo will be. Please
be advised that only pharmaceutical companies are actually
required to follow accurate SPF on sunblock.
If your tattoo looks faded - you are always able to
get it touched up and brought back to its original glory.
